June 13, 2011

This morning started off with cloudy skies, but the clouds soon started to burn off. The sun was shining, and the sky was blue.

We went for a walk and saw this really cool tree. There are a lot of cool trees in our neighborhood.

There are also a lot of beautiful roses in our neighborhood. This one especially caught our eyes today.

In the afternoon, we sat on our back deck and checked out our hops. You can see them climbing up the strings.

By that time, the sky was completely clear. Isn't that beautiful??

We also got a chance to look down on our grapes. Rob calls them our little solar collectors :)

June 12, 2011

This is our new totally awesome welcome mat. I got it on sale at Fred Meyer. Also a heads up to any friends who are thinking about stopping by this summer ;P I feel like I must have beer in my hands every time I walk into the house :)

June 11, 2011

We needed a side table outside, and Rob found a tree limb that looked like a tripod. He made this table, which works very well.
We just had to rent this movie from Netflix, expecially considering the erotic tiki that we recently acquired.

I think it could become a classic :P

June 10, 2011

We had a fire in our new firepit today. We heated some pizza over the fire, and it was super crunchy and good. The cheese on Rob's side caught on fire for a moment, so he had blackened pizza I don't think he would recommend that meal :)

June 9, 2011: Last Day of School

Probably the cleanest my classroom will ever look :)

June 8, 2011: Angry Bird

I crocheted an angry cardinal as an end-of-year gift for Rob's assistant who loves the game.

June 7, 2011: The Most Amazing Thing Happened!!

You may remember that on May 19th I received a very pretty anniversary gift that I then lost on May 27th.

Well, I wrote a very heartfelt letter to the website where Rob had ordered the bracelet: Amazon.com, and they sent me a new one, free of charge with one-day shipping!!! I am so impressed by their customer service and so very happy to be reunited with my bracelet :)

June 5, 2011: Spring in the Garden

Blueberries are forming.

Hearts are bleeding.

Pretty flowers are blooming.

And baby spiders are everywhere.

June 4, 2011

We went to the Farmer's Market and had a wood-fired pizza from Rolling Stone Pizza. It was amazing. They have a portable wood fire oven, and all the ingredients are local and/or organic. They go to a number of local farmer's markets.

The kitty lounged in the window and guarded the garden for us.

We went for a walk and saw some pretty irises in the canal.

Our pond is now coming together, with a pump/filter, some fish, water hyacinth and calamus. Can you see the two goldfish next to the calamus plant??

June 3, 2011

We bought a flea comb, and Kia actually likes it. We did catch a couple of fleas with it too.

June 2, 2011

Crazy clouds on the drive home from 8th grade Graduation.

Friday

June 1, 2011: Moody Blues

We had pretty good seats, nice and close to the stage. The weather looked bad though, and we had a bag with us filled with rain gear, an umbrella, winter hats, scarves and gloves :)

Rob was happy even though the weather was not perfect. He has wanted to see the Moody Blues for a really long time. Finally, there we were. Our neighbor and her sister were sitting to one side of us, and a student teacher Rob had worked with was sitting on the other side (the old guy is not one of those people by the way, although he was also a teacher!). Small world :)

The Moody Blues. They played a lot of great familiar songs. The keyboarder in the background on the far right was a little too happy and enthusiastic at times.

The flute player was awesome.

And here are a few videos. The sound quality is awful, but you get the idea. They sounded a lot better than my camera portrays.

May 31, 2011

We went for a walk and saw these cute little ducklings swimming with momma duck.

May 30, 2011

We decorated our new pond. We got the rocks for free on Craigslist and the Buddha at Fred Meyer. Now we just need a pump, some fish and pond plants.
Our grape vines have what look like flowers. This is very exciting news. Maybe we will actually get grapes ths year. Then we can make some wine :)

May 29, 2011: The Garden

We pulled out one of our planter boxes and filled it with electric green cucmber seedlings.

Then, we made a little raised bed surrounded by bricks and planted our pepper seedlings and store-bought tomato plants.

Finally, we populated the mound of dirt in our front yard with little tomato seedlings.

May 28, 2011: Impromptu Party.

May 27, 2011: A walk to the Vault

While walking to Vault 244, my new bracelet went missing. Bye Bye first anniversary gift. It must have broken while I was walking and fallen off my wrist. :( I was very sad. Rob left the restaurant and retraced our steps, but he could not find it. On the way home, we retraced our steps exactly and still did not find it. It's gone.

At the Vault, we had a light dinner. Rob had the pesto mac and cheese, which was the initial inspiration for our walk. He ordered it without the bacon and loved it. I had the spring gazpacho. It was amazng!! Then for dessert, we had the chocolate coconut dome. This is the most unbelievbly tasty dessert. Love it!! I'm actually amazed that it sat untouched long enough to have its picture taken :)

And of course, no visit to the Vaut would be complete with a cocktail. This is the prickly pear mojito. Yum!! But every cocktail I have ever tried there has been awesome.

We also had some beer and a lot of fun.

May 26, 2011

Lisa's current book.

May 25, 2011

We got some lemon cucumber plants. They're a lot bigger than our little cucumber seedlings.

May 24, 2011

May 23, 2011

Rob's new favorite way to get rid of dandelions: setting the seed heads on fire.

Rob's first anniversary gift. Now he can start brewing his own beer.

May 22, 2011

DOUBLE RAINBOW!!!!

We put in a pond this weekend.

Saturday

May 21, 2011: The Rapture

Rob and I were just minding our own business, working in the garden, when suddenly we were taken by the rapture. We were taken to Heaven where we got a really good view of our discarded clothing. It was really bizarre to sit up there amongst the clouds and angels and such, looking down on our clothes laid out on the pavement.

We were having a great time. Rob was joking around with the angels and telling some great stories, when all of a sudden, I guess they realized they had made a mistake. "You don't belong here," someone yelled. Then they all started chanting it.

And, well, they sent us back. I guess we were just too cool for them :)
